Morry Mannies began his radio career at WARU-AM in Peru, Indiana, as a disk jockey in 1952. When he went to Ball State University in 1956, he began working for WLBC-FM and remained there for 59 years. During those years, Mannies broadcasted both football and basketball games for Muncie and Delaware County Schools. He broadcasted four Muncie Central State Championships, one Delta State Championship and one Muncie Southside State Championship as well as Delaware County Tournaments. In 1956, Mannies became the radio voice for the Ball State Cardinals football and basketball teams; he was known as “The Voice of the Cardinals” until his retirement in 2011. During his broadcast career, Mannies did play-by-play for over 5,500 games at Ball State and Delaware County. In 1986, Mannies became part-owner of WLBC-FM and functioned as the station’s sports director. He was a three-time Indiana Sportscaster of the year and was also inducted into six Halls of Fame and twice received gubernatorial Sagamore of the Wabash designations. Mannies died March 5, 2020, in Muncie, Indiana, at age 81.
Mannies was inducted to Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2009.
