Richard (Dick) Baldwin
Richard Baldwin was the chief news photographer at WFBM-FM/TV (now WRTV-TV) and remained there for more than 30 years. He was named the News Photographers Association’s Photographer of the Year numerous times in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Baldwin was perhaps best known for his photography of the Oct. 31 explosion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum. From black-and-white film, he pioneered color film and later transitioned into videotape and live “insta-cam” on-the-scene reports. During his time as chief photographer, Baldwin and the station won many awards for their news photography.
Dick Baldwin was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2009.
