WTHI-TV, Mike Conway reporter/photographer

Columbian Enameling & Stamping Co., part of General Housewares, had an open house in Terre Haute. The company started in Terre Haute in 1902.
Terre Haute economy was having trouble in 1982, including part of Columbia Records closing down and other layoffs
Columbian Enameling had just laid off three people but still had 325 workers at the plant. Vice President William Power said the toughest competition came from overseas.
The plant produced 50 thousand items a day but could easily triple that number if demand would increase.
