Barbara Boyd is remembered for her upbeat style and ability to find humor in many of her TV consumer reports. She also applied that same approach to her own mastectomy, delivering her report from her hospital bed just days after surgery — that was more than 30 years ago when local TV rarely dealt with such subjects in detail. Boyd was Indianapolis’s first black female to report and anchor on TV news. She stayed with Channel 6 for 25 years.
