Don Fischer has been the “Radio Voice” of Indiana University football and basketball for more than 40 years. He has worked as an independent contractor and is currently serving the I.U. Radio Network owned by Learfield Communications. Additionally, Fischer hosts weekly coaches talk shows for football and basketball, and has a daily show from September to March called “IU Sports Today.” He has been named Indiana Sportscaster of the Year 26 times by two different organizations: The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, as well as the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, who inducted Fischer into its hall of fame in 2004. Fischer has broadcasted more than 1600 IU games, including eight Bowl games, four NCAA basketball championships and two NIT championships. From 1973 to 1987, he worked for ABC Radio, Canada’s CBC and several other major market radio stations including WIRE-AM in Indianapolis as its source for Indianapolis 500 coverage. During that 14-year period, he was sports director for WIRE-AM and Network Indiana, a statewide news network.
