Owen, a 1982 graduate of DePauw University, was working at WIBC Radio in Indianapolis in the Autumn of 1983 when a new independent television station, WPDS / Channel 59, was beginning to build its staff. Owen -- who had never sat in a TV anchor chair before -- was called in and was asked to bring a script to deliver on camera. This was shot in an empty studio; Owen wound up anchoring the news on the station, which signed on February 1, 1984. (Ken Owen)
