Hearing to talk about splitting up schools was postponed at the last minute
Sharon Kellet, School Board Member elect -didn’t know
Darrell Felling called out of town on business. He represents those in favor of
splitting Clay Co. Schools into a North and South District
Jim Ochs, Clay Co. School Board said it’s important for Felling to be there. Public
hearing will be rescheduled

5:05 Police Attacker 8/2/82

James Smith of West Terre Haute charged with attacking a Vigo Co. Sheriff’s
Deputy Tim Gossett.
Smith allegedly sideswiped a car on old Paris road. When Gossett asked him
about it, Smith attacked him and no bystanders would help until one woman
used his police radio to ask for help.

Japanese exchange students arrive on a Greyhound bus from Chicago.
They are greeted by host families in Terre Haute. They will be here for a few days
before moving on to other cities. One host family plans to take their student to
an Indianapolis Indians game and to a local fishing pond.

William Edington of Meadows Manor in Terre Haute turning 102.
Antique and Classic Automobile Club brought classic cars to the Manor and offered rides to the residents in honor of his birthday.

14:06 Tex Terry Birthday Party 8/21/82

Tex Terry spent a half century making western movies and TV in Hollywood.
Among his movies were Oregon Trail and Stars in my Crown.
He grew up and later retired to Coxville, Indiana in Parke Co.
Every year, he throws a party at his Longhorn Tavern on his birthday. This year
he turned 80. You can still buy autographed photos and become a member of
the Tex Terry Fan Club. He says he hates todays movies and calls them “filth.”
