The Morning Company was a weekly morning radio program on WIUS in the spring of 1982. Jeff L. Nance & Mike Conway had worked together on WIUS in previous semesters and brought together a group for the weekly program.

-What are your hobbies in spare time? Not a lot of spare time
-16 hours a day during the season he’s working
-in office by 8am
52:45 -look at film with players every other day -game and practice films
53:45 -training from 2:50p to 6pm, then talk about practice and watch film until 10am at

-often working with big guys, also first year on staff, so lots to learn
-scouting
-since we have so many freshmen, Coach Knight has to do a lot of teaching this year
-players have too many turnovers and fouls this season.. concentration issue
57:40 -fundamentals are key.. lots of emphasis on that right now
-didn’t play well in New York..hopefully it was a learning experience
58:45 -young teams need to find an identity, confidence in each other
59:40 -IU plays all the players every year. So mixing up a lineup isn’t a new thing
-sign of strength that everyone gets to play
1:01:40 -playing Michigan tomorrow.. they’ve only won one game
-Wolverines don’t have any tall players

-IU is only 6-5 so far
IU brings out the best in people
03:23 Ohio State is doing very well… Eldon Miller, playing IU on Saturday
-OSU lost a bunch of players last year but they are still doing very well
-the ball bounces funny. This OSU team is rallying behind Clark Kellogg
-Coach Knight played at Ohio State. Always a good program

-hardest part of being VP. Getting to know non-academic parts of IU
-physical plant, food services, IMU, transportation
-studying the budgets, visiting all the locations
11:11 -try to keep in mind his previous time as a professor
-going into administration is a step down because we want to teach and do research
-I’m trying to keep doing research, has a book coming out
-The Bible as Literature
13:03 -I enjoy my research so I find time to do it.
-can work the long hours because I enjoy all of the work
14:45 -being in the classroom is the safest place I’ll be all week
-can put admin stuff on hold
16:07 -very easy for administrator to just talk to each other and lose touch w/ faculty and
students
-his staff picks out faculty members and they have a lunch twice a week.

-American Federation of Teachers warned that Gros Louis has taken over Faculty
Council
-most admins are part of faculty so not as big a deal.
-Faculty council sets its own agenda, not Gros Louis, just presiding officer
20:20 -born in New Hampshire. My dad was a Huron Indian in Canada, never got past sixth grade
-did a PhD in Wisconsin … interviewed at IU in ’63, but really wanted to move back
east
-thought I’d only be here a few years. Bloomington is a hard place to leave
-I enjoy my faculty colleagues and students.. stimulating
-I really like the Midwest now, people from elsewhere talk about relaxed faces
