Indiana Broadcast History Archive

Hal Fryar began his broadcasting career as an announcer, emcee and writer as a teenager in mid-1940s Indianapolis. He then began developing his entertainment talents as host of programs geared toward young audiences in radio and TV, both in Ohio and Indiana. His shows on WFBM-FM included “Fryar’s Club” and “Hal’s a Poppin.” Fryar rose to prominence as Harlow Hickenlooper, the host of “The Three Stooges Show,” before a studio audience of children on WFBM-TV in Indianapolis. This and other Hickenlooper shows, such as “Fun Time” and “All Hands on Deck,” spanned 12 years, from 1960 to 1972. Fryar died June 25, 2017, at 90 years old.

Hal Fryar was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2008.
