Kay Field was a band singer and occasionally appeared on WFBM-FM/TV and WIRE-AM in Indianapolis. She auditioned for the open weather reporter job at WISH-TV in 1954, got hired, learned to write backwards and stepped behind the glass map for a 13-year nightly run on Channel 8. Field additionally appeared on remote broadcasts for various Indianapolis 500 festival events, the opening of Clowes Hall and the Indiana State Fair. She sang with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and in summer stock productions. Field died Oct. 2, 2014, at 93 years old.

Kay Field was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2007.
