Joe Edwards
Joe Edwards got his first media job in 1937at the Washington Herald. He later landed a job at the rival Washington Democrat as a full-time Sports Writer. He remained in this position until 1942, when he was inducted into the Army Air Corps. He returned to the Washington Herald in 1946 to help launch WFML-FM. He moved into sportscasting, and provided live basketball coverage for over 34 years. In 1951 Edwards was appointed General Manager, a position he held for 30 years. He continued announcing area basketball and football games, as well as other sporting and civic events. In 1956, he added the responsibility of General Manager of WAMW, Washington. He served as President of the Indiana society of Sportswriters and Sportscasters during the 1966-67 basketball season. He was named Indiana Sportscaster of the Year in 1972, and the Indiana Association of Coaches presented him with a 40-Year Service Award.
