Originally from Cloverdale, Indiana, Rick Cummings became Emmis Broadcasting’s first program director in 1981 at the flagship station WENS-FM. In 1984, he was named Emmis’s national program director, launching KPWR-FM in Los Angeles, followed by WQHT-FM in New York and then the country’s first all-sports section, WFAN-AM/FM in New York. In 2002, he became president of the Radio Division of Emmis Communications, overseeing more than 20 radio stations. In 2008, he became president of programming for Emmis’s domestic radio group.

Rick Cummings was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2011.
