Hottelet was the first broadcast journalist to give the listeners a first-hand account of the start of the D-Day invasion. He continued with CBS radio and television the rest of his career.

Mike Conway interviewed Hottelet as part of Conway's "The Visualizers" research project on the start of American television news. The interview was conducted at Hottelet's home in Wilton, CT.
