Caldwell for President. No sound

Video [without audio/silent] (1:54)

(Notes by Kamil Gut, J450 History of Journalism, Fall 2021 )

Synopsis: This video, which has no sound, shows clips of people gathered in a building that seems to be in use as a polling location (for a presidential election, or some club?). Multiple women show off their legs and arms, which have “CALDWELL FOR PRESIDENT” written in marker. It is difficult to determine exactly for what, and if, Howard Caldwell was running.

0:00 – video starts, in color of man who speaks to someone off camera, cuts to women standing alone with ‘CALDWELL FOR PRESIDENT’ written in marker on leg

0:22 – a pair of women and men stand around and talk to each other, cuts to man laughing in conversation, everyone in suits and dresses (some convention?)

0:36 – man and woman each holding something (apples?) with paper sticking out, small baskets on table in front of women filled with small pieces of paper

0:42 – several short clips of people engaging in conversation

1:03 – two signs hang from ceiling, one says, “local police reporter Bill Anderson V.P.” and other says, “Don Abbott for (?)”

1:14 – another woman with ‘CALDWELL FOR PRESIDENT’ written with marker on arm and leg
