Walter Cronkite was one of the most important journalists of the 20th Century. He was a celebrated World War II correspondent for the United Press wire service. He later transitioned to television at CBS. He became the main anchor of the CBS Evening News in 1962 and held that position until 1981, during the height of the broadcast era.

Mike Conway interviewed Walter Cronkite as part of Conway's "The Visualizers" research project on the early years of American television news. The interview was conducted at Cronkite's CBS office in New York City.
