Frances Buss Buch was one of the first television directors in American television history. She started at the CBS television station in New York City, WCBW in 1941 at the start of commercial television. She quickly moved from a temporary secretary position to an on-air talent, hosting such programs as TV Quiz, Country Dance, etc. The live programming was halted for a few years during World War II. When the station relaunched, Buss Buch was moved behind the camera and became one of a few directors in charge of the live programming. Mike Conway interviewed Frances Buss Buch as part of Conway's "The Visualizers" research project on the early days of American television. The interview was conducted at her home in Hendersonville, NC.
