Carl Vandagrift

Carl Vandagrift had a 40-year radio career at WOWO, Fort Wayne. He started in 1935 as a news rewrite editor, then was a staff announcer, newscaster, and continuity editor. Vandagrift was WOWO general manager 1952-1959 and 1961-1975. He also spent three years in Cleveland as general manager of KYW Radio. One of his early assignments at WOWO was “Hey, Mr. Motorist” broadcast from a downtown Fort Wayne intersection where he interviewed passing motorists from different states. Vandagrift died in 1991 in Louisville, Kentucky.
